On your doorstep

In the house we keep leaflets, maps and our own guide to what you can literally do on the doorstep.
See our map here for general orientation.

The following useful links provide further guidance on the outdoor opportunities. Many of these walks or cycles can be started directly from the house as there are direct links North and South to the Forestry network. A number of local circuits can be undertaken or you can simply walk along the tarmac track to the village.

Although our beach is stony there are decent gravelly patches – even sandy ones at low tide. Turn over any rock and you will see that these waters are rich in life with plentiful crabs,  molluscs and intertidal fish to be seen.  Commonly seen are seals, porpoises, oystercatchers, herons, mergansers, cormorants, eiders. On land you may well see a red squirrel in the garden and deer are abundant in the forest and on the hills. Frequently seen terrestrial birds are woodpeckers, siskins, bullfinches, long-tailed tits, grey wagtails buzzards as well as a host of more common birds. It is also worth looking out for Golden Eagles.

Further afield

Have a look at Discover Cowal for more information about the local area.

Inverlounin is a fantastic base to explore Argyll and the West Highlands.  On the beaten track you can enjoy a day out to Loch Lomond (cruise from Tarbet), Inverary (great castle) or the Benmore Botanic Gardens.

Glencoe, Oban and even Mull and Iona are also possible in longer days. Off the beaten track, there are miles of single-track road and Argyll’s “secret coast” leading to the lovely Isle of Bute.
